Hello and welcome! Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting this blog. For those of you that know me, this isn’t my first time diving into blogging. When I graduated from university back in 2013, I started a teaching and travel blog to keep my friends and family up-to-date with my life when I moved out west. I’ll be honest, I have missed writing a lot. Between completing my Masters degree and working (sometimes a couple jobs at a time), I haven’t had a whole lot of time to sit down and think about blogging or writing, that is until now.
I have been craving a creative outlet, so I’ve made it my goal to find room in my schedule for this hobby. Everything is set now, with the blog now launched, along with a Bookstagram account that shares the same name, I’m ready to write and get creative. You may be wondering though what I’m intending to blog about? Glad you asked:
Books, Books, Books
I was always posting my current reads on my personal Instagram account and constantly gushing about my favourite books to anyone who would listen to me. I finally created a Bookstagram account, but that still didn’t seem to be enough of a platform for me to discuss one of my favourite things – books! It was suggested that I start another blog dedicated solely to my love for books and I’m so happy I listened! Not only is this a great idea to save those poor individuals who have been subjected to my book-pushing all these years, but now I have joined a community of book lovers where this behaviour is totally acceptable and embraced.
Practice Makes Perfect
Writing was something I used to do daily, but it has sadly fallen off my radar over the past few years. Not that I have an amazing talent for writing or anything, but it is a muscle that needs to be exercised to not only maintain current capabilities, but to improve. I promised myself that as soon as I was finished grad school and once I started working again, I would carve out time to practice writing. It’s a personal goal I have to improve this skill of mine and the fact that it creates the upmost joy for me along the way is a bonus.
Extra bonus, not only do I LOVE talking about books and reading, but it also benefits me career-wise. Part of my job in the library is to perform reader’s advisory and I’m also in charge of collection development and conducting read-alouds. Books are a huge part of my job and this blog will be fundamental in supporting that piece, through book lists I’m hoping to create, reading maps, and reviews. I’m also hoping to continue building connections with other librarians and share what I am doing in the library.
Probably the reason that is nearest and dearest to my heart is the fact that books matter. In a world where technology is on the rise, and even though I am a supporter of integrating tech in the library, I do believe that too much of anything can be a bad thing. I believe books truly are portable magic and have the power to take us somewhere else entirely. They have the ability to humble us, root us, and remind us of the important things in life. This blog is essentially one big plug to encourage, whoever is still reading this, that books are special and important and if you are still here, then you might feel the same way too.
With all that being said, I want to say thank you for reading my first post and I’m so happy to return to the world of blogging!
